Thailand's True Corporation, working with Google, announced the AI for All Thais program in Bangkok on May 5, 2026. The initiative has policy support from Thailand's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and includes a 45-hour artificial intelligence course that universities can count toward academic credit.

The program has two phases, according to True. The first, AI First Citizen, builds basic AI knowledge through Google's Gemini Academy, with content on AI safety, digital literacy and prompt engineering delivered online and offline, alongside themed competitions. The second, AI for Future Workforce, centers on the 45-hour curriculum developed jointly by True and Google. It is to be piloted with more than 20 universities before a nationwide expansion, and it comes with a train-the-trainer scheme for university instructors and contests at university and national level. True also said it would offer 10GB of free data for online learning to True and dtac students.

The country's higher education minister, cited in the announcement, put Thailand's shortage of AI professionals at as many as 80,000. True said it aims to reach 12 million people with AI skills by 2030. The ministry's role is to set policy direction and support the integration of AI into higher education.

Why it matters

The program places an industry-built AI course inside university credit systems with ministry backing, a model for scaling AI skills through existing degree structures.
