Vuihoc, an online learning platform for school students in Vietnam, announced on July 31, 2023, that it had raised US$6 million in a Series A round led by the Singapore venture capital firm TNB Aura.

TKG Taekwang and the IBK-STIC Pioneer Fund joined the round, and existing shareholders Do Ventures, BAce Capital and Vulpes also took part. The company said the funds would be used to improve its products and to invest in AI so that learning can be tailored to the needs of individual students. An earlier bridge round of US$2 million had been led by BAce Capital, a fund backed by Ant Group.

Vuihoc was founded in 2019 by Lam Do and Thu Do and is based in Hanoi. It serves students from kindergarten to grade 12 with recorded video lessons, quizzes and live classes for individuals and small groups, all aligned with the national curriculum. The company reported more than 1.1 million users and a library of over 500,000 learning resources, and it focuses mainly on families in Vietnam's second- and third-tier cities. Vietnamese media reported that the country's edtech sector attracted about US$30 million in 2022 and that investment in the first half of 2023 had already passed that figure.

Why it matters

Vuihoc said part of the money would go into AI that adapts lessons to each student, extending personalized online learning to families outside Vietnam's largest cities.
