EduSpaze, the Singapore-based education technology accelerator, announced its fifth cohort in a statement reported on August 17, 2022, selecting nine early-stage companies for a three-month virtual program.

As listed by The Independent Investor, the cohort comprises InvestEd, a student loan provider from the Philippines; Scribo, a writing engagement platform from Singapore and Australia; the Indonesian learning management system Eduku and assessment platform EduPrime; Dystech, an Australian online reading assessment company; Top-BOSS from Taiwan, which runs game-based training contests; and three Singapore-linked firms, ChampsLMS, Datality Lab and the whiteboard tool HeyHi. Participants can receive investment of up to S$1 million, about US$726,000, together with mentor support and help in running pilot projects.

EduSpaze was launched in 2019. It is managed by Spaze Ventures, a seed capital firm and startup incubator with a portfolio of more than 40 startups, and is supported by the government agency Enterprise Singapore. eLearning Inside reported that the fifth cohort's products span student engagement, assessment tools and student mindset development, and that earlier participants Skilio, LingoTalk, ACKTEC Technologies and AkadAsia had gone on to raise funds from EduSpaze and other partners. The previous cohort, announced in February 2022, included Edorer, a US-based learning management and online exam platform, which states that it has raised funding from Spaze Ventures.

Why it matters

Two of the nine companies build assessment products and others target engagement, so the cohort shows where early-stage investment in the region is going on measuring and supporting learning.
