On August 1, 2021, Cambridge University Press and Cambridge Assessment formally combined to form a single organization named Cambridge University Press & Assessment. The merger joins the publishing and examinations operations of the University of Cambridge.

The university first announced the plan in October 2020, saying that the chief executive of the publishing business would lead the combined body while the head of Cambridge Assessment would leave after helping to set it up. The stated reason was growing demand from learners, teachers and researchers to deal with Cambridge through joined-up digital services, and for products that combine expertise in learning and assessment. The university noted that the shift to digital education during the COVID-19 pandemic had accelerated the move. The new body remains part of the university and keeps its not-for-profit status.

At the time of the announcement, the two organizations together operated in more than 170 countries. Cambridge Assessment International Education told schools in its community that their day-to-day relationship with it would not change. A shared website, cambridge.org, was introduced for the merged organization, while existing websites continued to run for a transitional period. Its work covers academic publishing, English language learning and assessment, international education and educational resources for schools.
