Leverage Edu, an Indian platform that helps students apply to universities abroad, raised $40 million in a Series C round, Inc42 reported on July 3, 2023. The round was led by ETS, the US-based educational testing organization.

Existing investors Blume Ventures, DSG Consumer Partners and Kaizenvest PE also participated. Inc42 reported that the round valued the company at $150 million and took its total funding to more than $70 million. A separate report by Techloy described the financing as a combination of $25 million in equity and $15 million in debt. The company had raised a $22 million Series B round in 2022.

Leverage Edu was founded in 2017 and is based in Noida. It provides counseling and application support for students seeking places at overseas universities, mainly in the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. It also arranges related services such as education loans through lending partners, international money transfers, accommodation and visa applications. At the time of the round the company said it had secured more than 20,000 student offers through over 650 partner universities. The investment linked a study-abroad service with an organization active in language testing.

Why it matters

An admissions testing body leading a round in a study-abroad platform ties language and admission testing more closely to the services that move students across borders.
